Trump administration to cut $200m from California funding because of state abortion policy

The Trump administration announced Wednesday that it is slashing California’s healthcare funding by $200 million because a 2014 state law requires insurance providers to pay for abortions, the Washington Examiner reports. In a statement, the US Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) said the 2014 law is in breach of federal anti-discrimination conscience legislation that protects insurers from a requirement to cover abortions.

The Abortion Care Network has reported that 127 US abortion clinics have closed since 2015, the Christian Post reports. The ACN report suggests most of these clinics closed because of financial constraints and pro-life laws.

Federal appeals court upholds Tennessee ban on abortion for Down syndrome

A federal appeals court in Tennessee has ruled it is lawful for the state to ban abortions requested on the grounds of Down syndrome, gender, or race, CBN News reports. In making this decision the 6th Circuit Court of Appeals upheld the legality of a law enacted by Tennessee Gov. Bill Lee (R) earlier this year.

Nineteen Pro-Life Laws Passed in 2020

Americans United for Life has reported that 13 states passed 19 pro-life laws in 2020, Lifesite News said Tuesday. Some of the new legislation includes provisions that require abortion providers to give women accurate information before they consent to terminate their pregnancy.
