Radical Hindu nationalists attacked a group of newly Christian believers in India’s Chhattisgarh state recently, causing a number of victims to be rushed to hospital, International Christian Concern (ICC) reports. Ruled by the Hindu nationalist Bharatiya Janata Party, India ranks 11 on the US Open Doors World Watch List 2023 of top 50 countries where Christians are persecuted.

Nepal: Pastor to spend year in jail for allegedly converting Hindus to Christianity

A pastor in Nepal has lost his appeal against conviction on false charges of forcibly converting Hindus to Christianity and will now spend a year in prison, International Christian Concern (ICC) reports. Nepal is no longer officially a Hindu state, but Nepalese Christians are subjected to persecution from radical Hindu groups who want the country to return to Hinduism.

Chinese government continues crackdown on Christianity

China’s ruling Communist Party is continuing its crackdown on Christianity by removing crosses from churches and adding new restrictions to religious activities, Missions Box reports. 

Uganda: Muslim extremist father locked up/starved his son for becoming a Christian

An evangelical team found a teenager in eastern Uganda to have been locked up and nearly starved to death by his Muslim father because he had become a Christian, Morning Star News (MSN) reports. While Christianity is legal in Uganda, former Muslims who become Christians are vulnerable to attacks by Islamic extremist relatives and community members.

For the first time ever, the Central American country of Nircaragua has been added to the Open Doors World Watch List of top 50 countries where Christians are persecuted. The Open Doors international Christian organization raises awareness of global Christian persecution, and ranked Nicaragua 50 on this year’s World Watch List.

Nigeria: Fulani herdsmen slaughter villagers in Kaduna state

Radicalized Islamic Fulani herdsmen murdered three more villagers in Nigeria’s Kaduna state in an ongoing campaign of land grabbing, murder, kidnapping, rape, and displacement across northern Nigeria and parts of the south, International Christian Concern (ICC) reports. Fulani herdsmen in Nigeria have murdered and committed other atrocities against tens of thousands of Christians, particularly since northern Nigerian states declared themselves under Islamic Sharia law in 1999.

US Christian groups call on Congress to act on behalf of persecuted Myanmar Christians

US Christian groups are urgently calling for Congress to address Myanmar’s military junta’s ongoing persecution of Christians, Baptist News Global (BNG) reports. Ruled by the Buddhist extremist Tatmadaw army, which overthrew the country’s democratically elected government in a military coup in 2021, Myanmar ranks 14th on the US Open Doors World Watch List 2023 of the top 50 countries where Christians are persecuted.
