(Worthy News) – The U.S. State Department announced on Tuesday announced the approval of $20 billion in arms sales to Israel, which include numerous fighter jets and advanced air-to-air missiles. This decision comes amid heightened regional tensions following the assassinations of two prominent terrorists in Beirut and Tehran, with the “Axis of Evil” vowing retaliation for their deaths.

Congress has been notified of the upcoming sale, which includes over 50 F-15 fighter jets, Advanced Medium Range Air-to-Air Missiles (AMRAAMs), 120 mm tank ammunition, high explosive mortars, and tactical vehicles.

However, the weapons are not expected to reach Israel immediately; these are contracts that will take years to fulfill. The sales are primarily aimed at boosting Israel’s military capabilities over the long term, with the earliest systems under the contract not anticipated for delivery until around 2026.

“The United States is committed to the security of Israel, and it is vital to U.S. national interests to assist Israel to develop and maintain a strong and ready self-defense capability. This proposed sale is consistent with those objectives,” according to a State Department press release.

The contracts include the sale of 50 new aircraft from Boeing and upgrade kits for Israel to retrofit 24 existing F-15 fighter jets with new engines and radars. These jets are the main component of the $20 billion deal, with the first deliveries expected in 2029.
