US: Republican and Democratic Lawmakers Agree To Suspend UNRWA Funding Until 2025
(Worthy News) – Republican and Democratic US lawmakers have agreed to halt funding to UNRWA, the UN Relief and Works Agency, which provides aid to Palestinians in Gaza, until at least March 2025, i24News reports. The lawmakers’ agreement follows reports that a number of UNRWA staffers participated in the Oct. 7, 2023, genocidal attack on Israel by the Hamas terror group.
The US is working to provide humanitarian aid to Gazans amid the ongoing war between Hamas and Israel through airdrops and the building of a seaport, as well as through other agencies.
UNRWA tends exclusively to the basic needs of Palestinian “refugees” displaced during the 1948 Arab-Israeli war and their descendants. The 1948 war was launched immediately after Israel accepted the 1947 UN Partition Plan offered in the wake of the Holocaust and declared independence. The Arab League standing armies of Egypt, Syria, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Yemen, and Lebanon then declared war on the fledgling Jewish state and were ultimately defeated.
Those Arabs who were displaced from Israel during the war were never absorbed as citizens by the surrounding Arab nations but were instead placed, and their descendants remain, in “refugee” camps in a number of those states and in the Gaza Strip, instead. The number of Arabs who were originally displaced during the war numbered around 750,000; their descendants now number five million.
These five million, and their supporters, claim they have the right of return to their forefather’s homes in Israel, a move that Israel has rejected on the grounds it would be destroyed as a Jewish nation, a place intended as a safe haven for Jews who are hated all over the world.
No other people group in the world has its own UN humanitarian aid agency. The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) alone covers all of the world’s refugees.
Concerning UNRWA’s involvement in the Oct. 7 attack, in one report, the Institute for Monitoring Peace and Cultural Tolerance in School Education (IMPACT-SE) said it found evidence on social media platforms that three UNRWA school teachers also served as Hamas terrorists. The Israel Defense Forces analyzed pertinent recordings and provided evidence of these teachers’ involvement in the Oct. 7 onslaught which left 1,200 mostly civilian Israelis dead and around 240 kidnapped – among other atrocities.
