(Worthy News) –
A new report has shown that the number of registered voters who say they are Christian has fallen by around 15% since 2008, the Christian Post reported Thursday. The Pew Research Center report also showed that the number of voters who say they are not religiously affiliated more than doubled in that time.

The Pew report was based on data obtained from a sample of more than 360,000 registered voters surveyed over 25 years.

The study showed that in 2008, 79% of registered voters identified as Christian. That figure was down to 64% in 2019, the Christian Post reported. Moreover, the number of voters who say they have no religious affiliation went up from 15% in 2008 to 79% in 2019.

In regard to faith affiliation and political persuasion, the report showed that the number of Christian Democrats dropped from 73% in 2008 to 52% in 2019. For Republicans, the numbers were 87% Christian in 2008 and 79% Christian in 2019.

Commenting on the findings to the Christian Post, Galen Carey, the National Association of Evangelicals vice president of government relations, said: “The number of Americans of faith is declining. The concern to us is not how many Christians are registered voters but how many voters are Christians.”
