Netanyahu pre-election proposal hints at one-state Trump peace plan

(Worthy News) – Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s promise to annex the Jordan Valley if he is reelected next week has angered proponents of the two-state solution.
On Wednesday the spokesperson for UN chief Antonio Guterres said Netanyahu’s proposal would crush the solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict favored by the United Nations, Jordan, Turkey, the European Union, and the Palestinian Authority, who collectively condemned the measure.
“Any Israeli decision to impose its laws, jurisdictions, and administration in the occupied West Bank is without any international legal effect,” said Guterres’ spokesman Stephane Dujarric.
Jordan, which currently controls the Temple Mount under a 1994 peace treaty with Israel, said the agreement with its neighbor was “at stake” in light of the plan, which draws on former proposals to apply Israeli sovereignty to the slice of the West Bank area Israel regained during the Six-Day war in 1967.
The Times of Israel reports that “Israeli annexation of the Jordan Valley would make a viable Palestinian state impossible by fragmenting it into enclaves within Israel,” shedding light on Netanyahu’s claim Tuesday that the plan was being formulated in “maximal coordination” with a Trump administration that apparently intends to release a one-state solution after Israeli elections September 17.
