7 Iranian Christians Suffer Detention Without Legal Representation, 5 Others Accused of ‘Propaganda Against the Regime’

(Worthy News) – Seven of the Christians arrested by Iranian intelligence services on July 1st in the city of Bushehr are being held in solitary confinement with no access to lawyers, Middle East Concern reports.
In another roundup, 5 Iranian house church leaders—part of the unofficial “Church of Iran” movement—began serving prison sentences on July 6th ranging from 4 to 14 months for “propaganda against the regime.”
“They have done nothing to undermine the state or spread propaganda against the state at all,” said Miles Windsor of Middle East Concern. “They’re being imprisoned because of their faith in the Lord Jesus. That’s true of the many Christians who face these kinds of charges.”
As an example, in May two other Iranian Christians were imprisoned in the notorious Evin detention center for “promoting Zionist Christianity,” as Christians are often seen by the regime as foreign agents of Israel or the US.
Last week, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo called the same Evin Prison a “regime dungeon,” saying the US would continue its maximum pressure campaign against the Islamic Republic of Iran.
