House Resolution to call extermination ‘Genocide’

By Joseph DeCaro, Worthy News Correspondent

(Worthy News) – Members of the U.S. House of Representatives introduced a bipartisan resolution in September that called for the murder of Christians and other religious minority groups in Iraq and Syria to be officially classified as “genocide,” according to Barnabas Aid.

“Christianity in the Middle East is shattered,” said Rep. Jeff Fortenberry. “Yet Christians in Iraq and Syria are hanging on in the face of Islamic State’s barbarous onslaught. This is genocide. The international community must confront the scandalous silence about their plight….”

Previously, President Barak Obama had promised to recognize the Armenian genocide if he ever took office, but to date he has failed to do so. More than 1.5 million Armenians and up to 750,000 Assyrians were killed in a genocide officially sanctioned by the Ottoman Empire a century ago.
