ISIS Advances on Baquba, Less than 40 Miles from Baghdad

BAGHDAD, IRAQ (Worthy News)– On Tuesday, the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (Greater Syria) (ISIS) targeted the city of Baquba, less than 40 miles north of Baghdad.  ISIS has “made a great advance on Baquba” and are pushing hard to take it, however the city has not fallen, Iraqi officials told CNN.

However, the western side of Baquba and the villages just west of the city are now under ISIS control, CNN reported.

The police station in Baquba came under attack overnight by ISIS jihadists, who tried to free Sunni prisoners held within its small prison, the Associated Press reported.  In the aftermath, at least 50 prisoners were found dead.

Meanwhile in Baghdad, four roadside bombs exploded resulting in at least two deaths and injuring at least 8 people.

Iraq’s Prime Minister, Nouri al-Maliki, fired the country’s top four security officers responsible for the fall of Mosul, a government statement said.
