NEW YORK (Worthy News) – The United Nations faced a new era Sunday after the United States rejected the U.N.’s 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, which includes “climate change” and “gender equality” plans that U.S. President Donald J. Trump believes harm the interests of Americans.

U.S. policy remarks reviewed by Worthy News on Sunday suggest major challenges ahead for those campaigning against what they view as “human-caused climate change,” with governments worldwide planning to spend trillions of dollars on the issue.

Last year, the United Nations Climate Change secretariat reminded countries, such as the United States and its allies, to allocate more money effectively: “Billions to Trillions: Setting a New Goal on Climate Finance” was the title of a U.N. Climate Change report seen by Worthy News.

Critics such as Trump suggest this would amount to printing more money, sparking inflation, and impoverishing people in Western nations from where most money should arrive.

Yet, “The scale of finance needed is significant – global models from the most authoritative institutions all converge in the range of trillions annually,” the U.N. Climate Change secretariat suggested.

“The first Needs Determination Report of the Standing Committee on Finance in 2021 shows nearly USD 6 trillion is needed to implement developing countries’ climate action plans by 2030, and this does not fully cost for adaptation,” it added.

Trump, the businessman-turned 47th President of the United States, raised questions about those assertions.

UN SPEECH

In a Friday speech before the United Nation’s General Assembly, a Trump administration representative rejected the U.N.’s 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

Edward Heartney, a minister-counselor at the U.S. Mission to the United Nations, called the 2030 agenda “a program of soft global governance that is inconsistent with U.S. sovereignty and adverse to the rights and interests of Americans.”

The 17 “sustainable development goals” included ending poverty, in addition to “urgently tackling climate change” and “gender equality.”

Others included providing clean water and sanitation for all people, providing quality education for every child, and promoting good health and economic growth.

The Trump administration now says it “rejects and denounces” especially climate change and gender issues while taking a critical look at tackling poverty to ensure taxpayers’ money arrives at the intended projects.

Despite the U.S. decision, U.N. spokesperson Stephane Dujarric maintained that “all 193 member states voted unanimously” to deliver on the 2030 sustainable goals.

Dujarric stressed that the world body is “holding onto” its guiding principles “to advance a world of peace, prosperity and dignity for all.”

It was not immediately clear how that view could be reconciled with Trump’s unilateral move to tear up the 2030 agenda.
