WASHINGTON/KYIV/BUDAPEST (Worthy News) – Ukraine faced more troubles at the frontlines Wednesday as the U.S. paused its intelligence sharing with Ukraine, cutting off vital information that helped the war-torn nation target Russian invaders.

However, both Kyiv and Washington expressed hope that cooperation will resume soon. “We have taken a step back and are pausing and reviewing all aspects of this relationship,” U.S. National Security Adviser Mike Waltz confirmed.

U.S. Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) Director John Ratcliffe called the suspension a “pause” and stressed it came after the disastrous meeting between President Donald J. Trump and Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

On Friday, both leaders quarreled in front of the world media in the Oval Office, with Trump saying Zelenskyy had been “disrespectful.”

However, President Zelenskyy said Wednesday that the “Ukrainian and American teams began working on an upcoming meeting.”

He added that Andriy Yermak, his senior adviser, and Waltz “have spoken, and there’s positive movement. We hope to see some results next week.”

Trump administration officials also said Wednesday that positive talks between Washington and Kyiv mean it may only be a short suspension.

BATTLE CONTINUES

Yet it comes as Ukrainian forces continue to battle against Russian forces, prompting Zelenskyy to thank several army units on Wednesday in a war that has killed and injured more than 1 million people.

Trump’s decision to suspend military aid to the nation added to their difficulties.

Amid the tensions, Zelenskyy said he spoke with several European leaders, including Germany’s chancellor and prime ministers from the Netherlands,

Portugal and Slovenia. “Thank you for all the support,” he wrote to them on the social media platform X.

“We are preparing for the EU summit, which will take place tomorrow [Thursday] in Brussels. Everyone can see how quickly diplomatic events are unfolding,” he added on X, referring to the gathering focused on boosting European defense and support for Ukraine.

With Trump ruling out NATO military alliance membership, the Ukrainian president still hopes the country will join the European Union.

“We also need to resume movement in the European direction, particularly regarding our Eurointegration – the clusters in the accession negotiation process. We are counting on the support of our partners,” Zelenskyy wrote.
