France Warns That Europe Will Not Tolerate Potential US invasion of Greenland

(Worthy News) – Responding to US President-elect Donald Trump’s recent statement that he would not rule out military action to seize Greenland, an autonomous territory of EU member Denmark, France on Wednesday warned that Europe is “strong” and will not allow another nation to attack its “sovereign borders,” Reuters reports.
Starting in 2019, Trump has floated the idea of buying the Arctic island of Greenland for various reasons including the military defense of US interests in the region and that its natural resources can be used to strengthen the US economy and energy security.
After Greenland and Denmark refuted the idea that the former is for sale, Trump told reporters this week that military intervention was a possibility because the US “needs” Greenland for “economic security.”
On Wednesday, French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot emphasized in a statement on France Inter radio that he did not believe Trump would lead a military assault on Greenland but that Europe would defend its borders if necessary. “There is obviously no question that the European Union would let other nations of the world attack its sovereign borders, whoever they are. We are a strong continent,” Barrot said.
“If you’re asking me whether I think the United States will invade Greenland, my answer is no. But have we entered into a period of time when it is survival of the fittest? Then my answer is yes,” Barrot added.
