(Worthy News) – The US has deployed the THAAD missile defense system along with a 100-member crew to bolster Israel’s defense against a possible third direct strike from Iran, as Tehran declares it has no red lines in its conflict with its adversaries.

The decision follows Israel’s request to Washington for enhanced power projection through the deployment of additional military assets in the region, along with support in strengthening its air defense systems.

“This action underscores the United States’ ironclad commitment to the defense of Israel, and to defend Americans in Israel, from any further ballistic missile attacks by Iran,” the Pentagon stated on Sunday.

“It is part of the broader adjustments the US military has made in recent months, to support the defense of Israel and protect Americans from attacks by Iran and Iranian-aligned militias,” the Pentagon added.

Meanwhile, Tehran is on high alert, anticipating a potential Israeli retaliation in response to its recent missile strike on Israel, according to CNN.

Iran is urgently seeking diplomatic support from regional countries to minimize Israel’s anticipated response and protect its capital. Tehran’s concern grows amid doubts about the U.S.’ ability to prevent Israeli strikes on key Iranian nuclear or oil facilities.

Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi cautioned, “While we have made tremendous efforts in recent days to contain an all-out war in our region, I say it clearly that we have no redlines in defending our people and interests.” He further warned, “The US has been delivering record amounts of arms to Israel. It is now also putting the lives of its troops at risk by deploying them to operate US missile systems in Israel.”

US President Joe Biden confirmed he was sending the missile defense system “to defend Israel.” The deployment of the Terminal High-Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) battery was authorized by Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin, following discussions between Austin and Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant. Biden also discussed Iran with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu last week.

The US decision to deploy THAAD to the region is viewed as an indication that it anticipates Israel is likely to carry out a retaliatory strike on Iran.
