(Worthy News) – The United Nations announced on Monday that nine staff members of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestinian Refugees (UNWRA) are suspected of involvement in the October 7, 2023, Hamas attack on Israel and will be fired from their positions.

Deputy spokesperson Farhan Haq stated, “For nine people, the evidence was sufficient to conclude that they may have been involved in the seventh of October attacks.”

Haq mentioned that all nine individuals implicated by the investigation were men, though he did not specify their actions. He emphasized, “For us, any participation in the attacks is a tremendous betrayal of the sort of work that we are supposed to be doing on behalf of the Palestinian people.”

In early July, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) conducted an operation in southern Gaza City, targeting Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad terrorists at the UNRWA headquarters.

Later in July, Israel’s parliament, the Knesset, initiated measures against the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestinian Refugees (UNRWA), declaring the prominent humanitarian organization a “terrorist organization.” This marked the first of three readings of bills aimed at designating UNRWA as a “terrorist” group, revoking the legal immunity of its staff members, and prohibiting its operations on Israeli territory.
