JERUSALEM/WASHINGTON (Worthy News) – With much of the Middle East in turmoil. U.S. presidential nominee Donald J. Trump confirmed he will host Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Friday at his resort in Palm Beach, Florida.

“Looking forward to welcoming Bibi Netanyahu at Mar-a-Lago in Palm Beach, Florida,” the former U.S. president said in a post on his social media platform Truth Social, using Netanyahu’s nickname.

The meeting will be their first since the end of Trump’s presidency, during which the two forged close ties. Their talks come at a moment of tensions between Netanyahu and Democratic President Joe Biden over Israel’s war against Hamas in Gaza.

For Trump, the meeting was an opportunity to show him as a potential peace broker after Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas wished Trump “strength and safety” after surviving an assassination attempt.

Friday’s meeting was also an attempt to reconcile with Netanyahu, who angered Trump when he congratulated Biden on his victory over Trump in the 2020 election.

Trump still claims the election was stolen from him by voter fraud, though several authorities and most legislators in the U.S. Congress disagree.

NETANYAHU REQUEST

Netanyahu had requested the in-person meeting with Trump during his visit this week to Washington, where he will seek the renewed support of Congress for Israel’s military operations against Hamas in Gaza.

Trump played a vital role in the “Abraham Accords,” the bilateral agreements on Arab–Israeli normalization signed between Israel and the United Arab Emirates and between Israel and Bahrain on September 15, 2020.

However, Netanyahu still needs to balance his loyalties to the presumptive Democratic presidential nominees, Kamala Harris and Donald J. Trump.

Several polls show a close race, though critics have questioned the opinion polls’ reliability as they do not always reflect Americans’ political demographics.

Netanyahu will meet both President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris. On Sunday, Harris entered the 2024 presidential race after Biden pulled out.

Most analysts believe a second Trump administration would give Netanyahu a freer hand in the Gaza war.
