LAS VEGAS/WASHINGTON (Worthy News) – The frail 81-year-old U.S. President Joe Biden slowly left Las Vegas after being diagnosed with COVID-19 and earlier saying he would drop his reelection bid if doctors found he had a medical condition.

Biden’s comments were the first time he has even slightly opened the door to abandoning the White House race. They came as polls showed most Democrats, including influential Representative Adam Schiff, want him to “pass the torch.”

“If I had some medical condition that emerged if somebody if the doctors came and said ‘you’ve got this problem, that problem,'” Biden told the Black media outlet BET in an interview when asked what could make him rethink.

Worthy News earlier reported that Biden had kept the door open for a possible resignation. The president, who was delivering speeches in Las Vegas, “is experiencing mild symptoms,” White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre explained in a statement.

Biden “will be returning to Delaware where he will self-isolate and will continue to carry out all of his duties fully during that time,” she said.

Yet news the fully vaccinated elderly statesman was feeling weak came at a time when polls showed that a whopping 65 percent of Democrats believe President Biden should withdraw from the 2024 presidential race.

DISASTROUS DEBATE

The outcome of the AP-Norc poll published Wednesday highlighted growing concerns about his physical and cognitive capabilities after Biden’s disastrous debate performance last month against former President Donald J. Trump, who survived an assassination attempt over the weekend.

The results based on a survey of 1,253 adults also undermined Biden’s claim that the “average voter” wants him to stay in the race, commentators said.

Overall, 70 percent of U.S. voters want Biden to withdraw from the 2024 presidential race, while only 57 percent want to see former President Trump withdraw.

The polls came as Representative Schiff, who became the most prominent elected Democrat, publicly called on President Joe Biden to drop out of the race on Wednesday.

At the same time, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries reportedly collaborated to delay formalizing President Biden as the Democrats’ nominee.

It was seen as a sign that the congressional leaders sympathize with rank-and-file Democrats who want more time to address concerns about Biden’s ability to defeat former President Trump.
