(Worthy News) – Former President Trump survived an assassination attempt and was seen bleeding as the Secret Service quickly escorted him off the stage during a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, on Saturday. The gunfire resulted in one attendee being shot dead, another injured, and the alleged shooter being killed.
Trump had just begun energizing the crowd by discussing the border control crisis in the United States when at least five shots were heard. He was immediately surrounded by Secret Service agents and taken down for protection.
Reports indicate that Trump was struck by a piece of flying glass from a teleprompter shattered during the shooting. Amid the ensuing chaos, Secret Service agents were heard shouting, “The shooter is down.”
As the Secret Service led Trump away, with what appeared to be blood on his cheek and right ear, he raised his arms defiantly, chanting, “Fight! Fight!” This prompted thousands in the crowd to chant, “USA! USA! USA!”
In CNN’s breaking news coverage of the assassination attempt, the news agency reported, “Secret Service Rushes Trump off stage after he falls at the rally.” This led critics on social media to decry the media outlet for misrepresenting the facts as the events unfolded live on TV.
In a statement, Trump’s communication director, Steven Cheung, assured that the former president “is fine.” Cheung added, “President Trump thanks law enforcement and first responders for their quick action during this heinous act. He is being checked out at a local medical facility.”
Butler County District Attorney Richard Goldinger informed reporters that the shooter was dead, and a bystander was also killed in the bloodbath. The identities of the shooter and the deceased bystander have not yet been confirmed. Another person is in serious condition, according to the prosecutor.
Additionally, it remains unclear where the shooter opened fire and what kind of weapon was used.
Shortly after the assassination attempt, Secret Service spokesperson Anthony Guglielmi said, “An incident occurred the evening of July 13 at a Trump rally in Pennsylvania. The Secret Service has implemented protective measures, and the former President is safe. This is now an active Secret Service investigation, and further information will be released when it is available.”
