(Worthy News) – Suspected Fulani terrorists in Nigeria’s Plateau state murdered eight Christians, including two children, in attacks on three villages in the last week of June, Morning Star News (MSN) reports.

During the night of Wednesday, June 26, suspected Fulani herdsmen attacked Hwrra village in Miango District, Plateau state, murdering five Christians, including two children, in their beds, MSN reports.

Another Christian was wounded, and three homes were set on fire in that attack, Sam Jugo, spokesman of the Irigwe Development Association (IDA) of the predominantly Christian Irigwe ethnic group in Bassa County, said in a press statement.

“There was an attack on the night of 26th June at about 10 p.m. by criminal elements suspected to be Fulani herders at Hwrra, Kwall axis, Bassa LGA,” Jugo said.

“The incident claimed the lives of five innocent Rigwe souls, namely Mrs. Jummai Matthew, 67, Martha Danladi, 13, Meshack Matthew, 18, Bari John, 30, and Robert Sunday, 7. Three houses were also razed down,” Jugo said, adding that Maryamu Sunday was severely injured during the massacre.

Three days earlier, on Sunday, June 23, suspected Fulani terrorists ambushed three Christians in Nkiedonwro village, shooting one of them dead and injuring two others, MSN reports.

Two days before that, on June 21, suspected herdsmen attacked Kparenke village, murdering two Christians and wounding another, MSN reports.“At about 10 p.m. on 21st June, when Christians in the Kparenke community were asleep, Fulani herdsmen unleashed terror on them, and as a result, two Christians were killed and one other injured,” Jugo said in this statement.

“These attacks are as despicable as they’re unfortunate. We condemn these acts of wanton disregard for human lives and extant laws of our nation and our country.”

Plagued by Islamic terrorism, which the Islamist government has neglected to deal with, Nigeria ranks six on the Open Doors World Watch List 2024 of the top 50 countries where Christians are persecuted.
