(Worthy News) – Israel’s National Security Advisor Tzachi Hanegbi announced this week that, although Hamas’ military capabilities in Gaza have not yet been destroyed, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) will soon be implementing parts of a “day after Hamas” plan for the coastal enclave, All Israel News (AIN) reports.

During an address Tuesday at Israel’s Institute for Policy and Strategy at Reichman University, Hanegbi told those gathered for the Herzliya Conference that a plan for managing Gaza the “day after” Israel’s war with Hamas has ended has been “sharpened.”

“We don’t need to wait for Hamas to disappear because maybe that process will take a long time,” Hanegbi said, adding that “a practical expression of this plan” would be implemented soon, AIN reports.

Hanegbi gave his assessment days after Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu discussed the “day after Hamas” issue during an interview on Israeli television. “The question is, do we also want to create a civilian government, if possible, with local Palestinians, maybe with external backing from local countries, to administer the humanitarian distribution, and also afterward the civilian administration of the [Gaza] Envelope?” Netanyahu asked.

Answering in the affirmative, the PM continued: “The IDF came to me five months ago and suggested, ‘Let’s take clans and give it [administration] to them.’ I said, ‘Okay.’ We took the clans, and it didn’t take a long time and Hamas eliminated them.”

The PM added that the IDF has a new plan: “I don’t want to give details here, because I want it to succeed, to do it in stages, in a different manner. And I think it’s an essential thing to attempt,” he said.
