WASHINGTON (Worthy News) – A leading pro-life group says Thursday’s decision by the U.S. Supreme Court to uphold access to a widely available abortion pill shows that the upcoming presidential elections should be about the protection of “unborn children and their mothers.“

Marjorie Dannenfelser, the president of Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America, stressed that “The pro-life safety net stands ready to serve women facing unexpected pregnancies, as well as those hurt by abortion, and save babies’ lives.”

She added that the “stakes of elections are higher than ever for unborn children and their mothers. Americans do not support the Democrats’ agenda, and it is imperative to defeat them this November.”

Her comments came after the Supreme Court rejected a legal challenge by anti-abortion groups and doctors against the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approval of Mifepristone, the drug for most abortions.

In a unanimous decision written by Justice Brett M. Kavanaugh, the Court ruled that the plaintiffs lacked “sufficient standing” to bring the lawsuit.

However, the ruling was welcomed by Democratic U.S. Senator Patty Murray, who said, “For now, mifepristone remains accessible where abortion is legal.”

However, Murray warned that “Americans need to understand that the nationwide threat to medication abortion has not gone away — far from it. If Donald Trump and his anti-abortion allies return to power, they will do everything they can to rip away access to mifepristone and ban abortion nationwide. They’re already revealing their plans to do just that.”

TRUMP’S IMPACT

As president, Trump sought a 20-week abortion ban. He also appointed scores of anti-abortion judges, including three justices, to the Supreme Court.

The justices proved crucial in a Supreme Court decision to end Joe v. Roe, which made abortion a “fundamental right” across the nation.

Pro-abortion activists expressed hope that Thursday’s Supreme Court ruling on making the abortion pill widely available would not be attacked by Trump, who seeks re-election in November.

“This case should never have made it to the Supreme Court in the first place. Anti-abortion operatives brought this case with one goal in mind – to ban medication abortion, and they failed. This case was a near miss for the science and medicine community, and it won’t be the last attack,” argued Haydee Morales, the interim president of the National Institute for Reproductive Health.

“While we are relieved that the Supreme Court saw through the politics and lies about mifepristone, an incredibly safe and effective FDA-approved medication used in medication abortion care, this case should never have made it this far,” added Lupe Rodriguez, the executive director of the National Latina Institute for Reproductive Justice.

However, “We know that these attacks on abortion care will only continue,” Rodriguez warned.

Christian and other groups have urged the government to encourage pregnant women to keep their babies and seek help in faith-based centers.

ABORTION BAN?

They have also been involved in massive “Pro-Life” prayer marches and outreaches.

However, opinion polls-conscious Trump appeared to walk away from his previously held views, saying that he would not sign a national abortion ban if he were elected president.

He separately said it is up to the states to decide on the issue.

Yet anti-abortion leaders are urging Republicans not to remove a federal abortion ban from the party’s platform at next month’s convention, where Trump is their presumptive nominee.

The current platform – put in place during Trump’s 2016 campaign for president and left unchanged calls on the U.S. Congress to prohibit abortions after 20 weeks.

It also proposes an amendment to the U.S. Constitution giving the unborn the same rights as a born person.
