Netanyahu Receives Bipartisan Invitation to Address Congress

(Worthy News) – Despite strong opposition from the progressive wing of the Democratic party, all four leaders of the US Senate and House of Representatives on Friday issued a bipartisan invitation to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to address a joint meeting of Congress, Reuters reports.
Israel’s ongoing war against Hamas in Gaza has brought world-wide rage. With Islamic jihadist Hamas terrorists hiding and fighting from beneath civilian infrastructure, thousands of Palestinians have died and 1.4 million people have been displaced as the Israeli military seeks to destroy the terror group which brutally attacked Israel on Oct. 7 last year and which is still holding more than 100 hostages. Among US lawmakers who oppose the invitation to Netanyahu is Jewish Democratic US Senator Bernie Sanders who described the PM as a “war criminal” who should not be allowed in Congress.
Nevertheless, the invitation to Netanyahu was signed by Republican House Speaker Mike Johnson, Democratic Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell and House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries, Reuters reports. That Schumer signed the invitation is all the more noteworthy as he recently called for Israeli elections to replace Netanyahu as prime minister.
“To build on our enduring relationship and to highlight America’s solidarity with Israel, we invite you to share the Israeli government’s vision for defending democracy, combating terror, and establishing a just and lasting peace in the region,” the invitation read. No date was proposed for the PM’s speech.
Netanyahu on Saturday accepted the invitation, saying in a statement on the “X” social media platform that he looked forward to presenting “the truth” to Congress about the “just war.”
