Christian Students Stage “Walk-In” at UCLA in Solidarity With Israel
by Karen Faulkner, Worthy News Correspondent
(Worthy News) – The Passages US-based Christian ministry last week celebrated Israel’s 76th Independence Day by organizing a solidarity “walk-in” at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) to show support for the Jewish state and Jewish students facing anti-semitic hostility in the wake of the Oct. 7 attacks by Hamas.
Passages take American Christian students on trips to Israel to help them understand the Hebraic roots of their faith.
Strongly supportive of Israel, the Passage’s mission statement asserts: “We support the Jewish people and the State of Israel because we believe they have a right to human flourishing and peace in their historic homeland.” At the same time, the ministry also emphasizes: “We support the Palestinian people because we believe all people have been made in the image of God, are loved by God, and have a right to human flourishing and peace.”
Intended to counteract the anti-Israel “walk-outs” staged at colleges across the US, the Passages walk-in was organized in partnership with Students Supporting Israel after a UCLA Israel celebration.
Addressing the Israeli American Council (IAC) prior to the walk-in, Passages CEO Scott Phillips said: “If I could share one message, it would be this: Christians across the nation are standing with Israel. We might not be noisy, aggressive, or violent, as are those who seek Israel’s destruction, but those who want Israel to defeat the evil Hamas and see Israel flourish are the more silent majority across North America. Nevertheless, we are starting to raise our voices, and they will be heard.”
“We are here to stand with you,” Phillips said. “We are here to stand with Israel. We also have alumni attending more IAC events in cities across America to celebrate and stand with Israel. And we’re not only here today. We are with you tomorrow, and the day after. We stand with you shoulder to shoulder forever. This is our commitment!”
