ATLANTA, USA (Worthy News) – A student at Kennesaw State University (KSU) in the U.S. state of Georgia was shot and killed Saturday by an “armed intruder” on campus who has since been detained, officials said.

The female student was shot around 4 p.m. local time, Worthy News learned.

In a statement seen by Worthy News, KSU said, “Kennesaw State officials can confirm that a female student was fatally shot on campus. A suspect has been detained.”

The university added that there is no longer a “threat to the campus community” after earlier urging students to hide.

“Kennesaw State University Police are working with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, and we will provide updated information once it becomes available,” the university added.

In an earlier alert on social media, the university said: “Armed Intruder reported at Kennesaw State. Seek shelter in a secure location until further notice.”

By 4:45 p.m. local time, the university had made an “all clear” statement and said the suspect was “no longer a threat to campus.”

PUBLIC RESEARCH

The university campus in Kennesaw, a suburban city northwest of Georgia’s capital, Atlanta, is one of two campuses of KSU, a public research university in the Atlanta metropolitan area.

The KSU was founded in 1963 by the Georgia Board of Regents using local bonds and a federal space grant during major Georgia economic expansion after World War II.

The motives of the shooter behind Saturday’s attack weren’t immediately clear.

It was the second shooting making headlines in a week after 19-year-old Jeremiah Estel Blair was taken into custody after he allegedly shot his parents in the U.S. state of Arizona.

Authorities in the Arizona city of Chandler said the 19-year-old “reported being upset over his upbringing, and he felt he was not treated as he should have been as a child. Blair stated he had been planning for years to kill the victims.”

Blair’s parents were taken to hospital in stable condition, with one of the two undergoing surgery due to the injuries sustained, officials said

Their son has reportedly been charged with two counts of “attempted premeditated first-degree murder.” He was given a $750,000 bond and had a preliminary court hearing set for May 22, Worthy News monitored.
