Christian Ministry Serves Thousands Of Ukrainian Refugees In Moldova, “Pray For Us”
by Karen Faulkner, Worthy News Correspondent
(Worthy News) – An international Christian mission has been ministering to thousands of Ukrainian refugees who fled their homes for the former USSR country of Moldova after the ongoing Russian invasion of Ukraine began two years ago, CBN News reports. Headquartered in Tennessee, USA, Mission Eurasia has outreaches in the 13 countries of the former Soviet Union and Poland.
Nearly one million Ukrainians poured into neighboring Moldova after Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered the invasion on Feb. 24, 2022; more than 100,000 Ukrainian refugees still remain in the tiny country, CBN News reports.
In an interview with CBN News, Inna Tokarchuk, who leads the Mission Eurasia outreach in Moldova, said the group has ministered to at least 10,000 Ukrainian refugees, most of whom were women and children suffering extreme difficulty. “I’m serving people who’ve experienced war, who’ve lost their homes and maybe their loved ones and have for the last two years been forced to live in a different country in hard conditions,” Tokarchuk said.
A primary concern for the mission’s leaders is sharing God’s comfort and the hope of the Gospel with those they serve. “Every one of our meetings begins with fellowship and ends with a message from God’s Word,” Tokarchuk said. My goal is to share what the Bible says relating to their situation. I want them to know who this Jesus is and how His Word can be made applicable in their daily lives.”
In a separate statement to CBN News, Moldovan Pastor Alexandr Belev, who serves as Mission Eurasia’s executive director for field missions, said: “Pray for us so that we can maintain the desire to minister and that people would have compassion and will share what they have with others and fulfill the scripture that says to take care of orphans, widows, and those who are oppressed.”
