Several Killed In Suspected Israeli Air Strikes In Syria

DAMASCUS/JERUSALEM (Worthy News) – An Israeli air strike on a residential area of Syria’s capital, Damascus, killed at least two people, Syrian sources said Wednesday, but Israel did not confirm or deny the attack.
Wednesday’s reported deaths came after Israel said it stepped up its air campaign against Iran-backed terror groups and individuals who target the Jewish nation, including in Syria.
“The Israeli enemy carried out an air attack with several missiles… targeting a residential building in the Kafr Sousa neighborhood in Damascus,” said a statement from a military source carried by state news agency SANA.
“The attack led to the martyrdom of two civilians, wounded others, and caused material damage to the building” and surrounding structures, the statement added.
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a Britain-based, well-informed war monitor, gave a death toll of three, saying that “a Syrian civilian” was killed, as well as two foreign nationals.
Footage seen by Worthy News showed smoke billowing over parts of Damascus, with some describing the attack on social media as a “targeted assassination.”
IRANIAN MILITIAS
The Kafr Sousa neighborhood is known for having a heavy presence of Iranian militias, Israeli sources said.
Syrian reports claimed Iranian militias used parts of the targeted building as a headquarters.
Later Wednesday, the Observatory for Human Rights said that in a fresh attack, Israel also bombed “positions belonging to Iran-backed groups southwest of Damascus.”
Witnesses in the capital reported hearing an intense explosion hours after the earlier attack in the residential area. The Observatory also reported Israeli fire targeting areas near the Israeli-held Golan Heights.
Israel launched hundreds of air strikes in Syria since civil conflict broke out in 2011.
But it has increased pressure since Hamas launched an attack from the Gaza Strip on October 7 in which some 1,200 people were killed and hundreds kidnapped.
