Residents In Texas City On Edge Amid Civil War Fears Ahead Of Eclipse

EAGLE PASS, USA (Worthy News) – Residents in a strategic border city of the U.S. state of Texas were preparing for another weekend of border tensions after thousands of migrants crossed the river illegally and Texas National Guard troops tried to stop them in recent days.
Eagle Pass, a 28,000-person city, finds itself at the center of a heated standoff with the federal government that observers fear could lead to civil war, an issue that won’t be eclipsed by an upcoming total solar eclipse in April.
Texas and the federal government are fighting each other in court over who should take charge of the area in Texas that borders Mexico.
The state’s Republican Governor, Greg Abbott, argues that the administration of U.S. President Joe Biden isn’t doing enough to control illegal border crossings.
Abbott, therefore, ordered the Texas National Guard to install razor wire along the Rio Grande near Eagle Pass to halt the influx.
But Biden administration officials and Homeland Security Department court filings say Texas is blocking U.S. Border Patrol agents’ ability to do their jobs.
U.S. SOIL
The wire blocks Border Patrol from entering Shelby Park, which federal agents have used to process paperwork for migrants. People who reach the area are already on U.S. soil, they argue.
Abbott counters he has a constitutional duty to defend his state against an “invasion,” and several Republican states have pledged to support him in his battle.
Critics say the standoff could add to more troubles for what they view as America’s increasingly frail president in a crucial election year.
It also comes as the strategic border city prepares for the April 8 total solar eclipse.
Observers note that when the eclipse goes across Central America, Eagle Pass will be the first town to experience the eclipse on that day.
That event is expected to draw thousands to the area, with or without an American passport.
