LONDON (Worthy News) – Britain’s prime minister warned the Iran-backed, Yemen-based Houthis of further Western strikes after they hit a U.S.-owned ship in the Red Sea.

Rishi Sunak told Parliament on Monday: “Of course, we will not hesitate to protect our security, our people, and our interests.”

In a statement to the House of Commons, Sunak also stressed that British military action last week was a “necessary and proportionate response to a direct threat to UK vessels and therefore to the UK itself.”

He said that all planned targets had been destroyed with no reports of civilian casualties. “I can tell the House today that our initial assessment is that all 13 planned targets were destroyed,” he claimed.

His comments came after Houthi forces in Yemen struck a US-owned and operated container ship M/V Gibraltar Eagle, with an anti-ship ballistic missile.

The U.S. Central Command said there were no reports of injuries or significant damage in Monday’s attack “at approximately 4 p.m. (Sanaa time).”

It said the “Iranian-backed Houthi militants fired an anti-ship ballistic missile” at the Marshall Islands-flagged, U.S.-owned and operated container ship.

“Earlier in the day, at approximately 2 p.m. (Sanaa time), U.S. Forces detected an anti-ship ballistic missile fired toward the Southern Red Sea commercial shipping lanes. The missile failed in flight and impacted on land in Yemen,” the U.S. Central Comment added in comments monitored by Worthy News. “There were no injuries or damage reported.”

However, the confrontations made clear that the tensions were rapidly developing into a broader conflict involving the U.S., Israel, and their allies against Iran, its proxies, and other nations.

The Red Sea is one of the world’s crucial waterways for global trade.
