JERUSALEM/TEHRAN (Worthy News) – Israel’s new foreign minister has warned of a “Third World War against Iran and radical Islam.”

Israel Katz spoke after a deadly clash between Iran-backed militia and the United States in the Red Sea amid what he called Tehran’s “race to obtain nuclear weapons.”

Katz’s comments, monitored by Worthy News on Wednesday, came as Washington confirmed that a U.S. helicopter had come under fire when responding “to a distress call” this week from a commercial cargo ship in the Red Sea.

Fighters of the Tehran-supported Islamist Houthi rebel forces attacked the aircraft, prompting the U.S. helicopter to return fire, sinking three Houthi boats and killing their crews, the U.S. Central Command said.

The Houthis, based in Yemen, admitted to losing 10 fighters in Sunday’s exchange.

They reportedly attacked over 20 vessels along the Red Sea shipping route in recent weeks in retaliation to Israel’s declared war against Hamas and allies supporting the Jewish nation.

The clashes came as Tehran moved its Alborz warship into the Red Sea, Worthy News learned Wednesday after monitoring several reports.

NUCLEAR WEAPONS

These confrontations in one of the world’s most crucial waterways come as Iran’s “race to obtain nuclear weapons continues even more vigorously during these times,” Katz noticed.

“The front that Iran has built here in this region is not only against Israel … This is a Third World War with today’s tools, and we are at the front for the whole world,” the new foreign minister stressed. “We are in the midst of a Third World War against Iran and radical Islam,” Katz added.

He gave the speech Tuesday at the Foreign Ministry building in Jerusalem, where he assumed the role as Israel’s top diplomat amid Israel’s declared war against Hamas in Gaza.

Katz replaced Foreign Minister Eli Cohen, who took over Katz’s role at the Energy Ministry.

“I have always said that we have a foreign minister full of energy, and now you are going to the Energy Ministry,” Katz joked. “We will continue to act together as we have done until today.”

Katz faces armed conflicts and tensions, including in the Red Sea, where the U.S., Israel’s closest ally, launched “Operation Prosperity Guardian” with partner nations to protect commercial ships against Houthi attacks.

Iran has warned Washington of unspecified “extraordinary problems” if it continues its operations in the Red Sea.
