Russia Has Suffered Massive Losses, U.S. Intelligence Says

(Worthy News) – According to a newly declassified U.S. intelligence report presented to Congress, the conflict in Ukraine has severely impacted Russia’s military capabilities. The report indicates that close to 90% of Russia’s prewar army has been diminished due to casualties or injuries, and thousands of its battle tanks have been destroyed, the Wall Street Journal reported.
The intelligence report, as detailed by the Wall Street Journal, indicates that since the onset of the Ukraine conflict in February 2022, Russia has experienced significant losses in its military personnel. With a prewar force of 360,000, it’s reported that about 315,000 Russian troops have been killed or injured since the war’s beginning, amounting to approximately 90% of its prewar force.
During the conflict, the Russian army suffered substantial losses in armored forces. Out of a pre-invasion stock of 3,500 tanks, it’s reported that they have lost 2,200 tanks, which constitutes nearly two-thirds of their tank force.
The intelligence report, delivered to Capitol Hill on Monday, arrives amid hesitations from some Republicans regarding further funding for Ukraine. Concurrently, the Biden administration is trying to secure additional financial support for Ukraine through Congress.
However, Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) has told the Biden Administration that funding for the Ukraine war would not be authorized unless Democrats take action to address issues at the nation’s border.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is visiting Washington on Tuesday, where he is meeting with US lawmakers and President Joe Biden. His urgent objective is to secure the military and economic support he deems crucial for Ukraine’s continued resistance against Russia.
The report concludes that the conflict in Ukraine “has sharply set back 15 years of Russian effort to modernize its ground force.”
