FBI Director Says ‘Blinking Lights Everywhere’ as Threat Levels Hit All-Time Highs

(Worthy News) – On Tuesday, during his testimony before a Congressional Committee, FBI Director Christopher Wray stated that the United States has been confronting unprecedented terrorist threats since the start of the Israel–Hamas conflict in October.
Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) asked the FBI director to describe the current “threat matrix” during the Senate Judiciary Committee hearing.
“What I would say that is unique about the environment that we’re in right now in my career is that while there may have been times over the years where individual threats could have been higher here or there than where they may be right now, I’ve never seen a time where all the threats or so many of the threats are all elevated, all at exactly the same time,” the FBI director responded.
“So, blinking red lights analogy about 9/11 — all the lights were blinking red before 9/11,” Sen. Graham said. “Obviously, all of us missed it. Would you say there’s multiple blinking red lights out there?” he asked the FBI Director.
“I see blinking red lights everywhere,” Wray answered.
FBI Director Wray Advocates for Renewal of Surveillance Tool
In his opening statement before the Senate Judiciary Committee, FBI Director Christopher Wray urged Congress on Tuesday to renew a surveillance law that provides most of the intelligence on the president’s desk daily.
FBI Director has requested Congress to extend Section 702 of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act, which is set to expire on December 31.
“When it comes to foreign adversaries like Iran, whose actions across a whole host of threats have grown more brazen — seeking to assassinate high-level officials, kidnap dissidents, and conduct cyber attacks here in the United States — or the People’s Republic of China, which poses a generational threat to our economic and national security, stripping the FBI of its 702 authorities would be a form of unilateral disarmament,” Wray stated in his opening remarks.
“Given the critical importance of 702, we’re committed to being good stewards of our authorities,” he said. “To that end, I’ve ordered a whole host of changes to address unacceptable compliance incidents.”
Nevertheless, many Republicans have objected to the law’s renewal, with many lawmakers expressing concerns about the weaponization of the FBI and the Justice Department against conservatives in the United States.
