(Worthy News) – An organization that tracks antisemitism in Germany has announced it recorded a 320% increase in antisemitic incidents per day in the country since the Oct. 7 Hamas Palestinian terrorist attack on Israel, the Associated Press reports.
Germany’s Research and Information on Antisemitism (RIAS) group said in its report published Tuesday that it recorded 994 incidents, an average of 29 incidents per day compared to the same period in 2022, AP reports. The group studied the period from Oct. 7 to Nov. 9.
Of the 994 antisemitic incidents recorded by RIAS, three involved extreme violence, AP said. There were a further 29 physical assaults, targeted damage to 72 properties, 32 threats, four mass mailings, and 854 cases of offensive behavior.
In the southwestern town of Giessen, two men broke into the home of an Israeli national to remove an Israeli flag hanging out of the window, AP reports. Several Jews also reported that their homes were marked with Stars of David.
RIAS further reported a marked increase in the amount of antisemitic and anti-Israeli propaganda being circulated at universities in Germany, with a total of 37 incidents logged by RIAS, AP said. Jewish students also reported being personally blamed for Israeli politics, and some stopped attending classes for fear they would be assaulted.
