(Worthy News) – U.S. forces targeted Iranian-supported militias responsible for firing a short-range ballistic missile at the al-Asad air base in Iraq on Monday. The attack led to eight injuries among U.S. troops.
A U.S. gunship deployed in the region successfully identified the source of the attack and maintained surveillance on the Iranian-backed militia group. This allowed U.S. troops to promptly retaliate, resulting in several casualties, as stated by the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM).
This marked the first time that a ballistic missile was launched against U.S. forces in the Middle East since the surge in attacks commenced on October 17.
According to Sabrina Singh, spokesperson for the Pentagon, militias supported by Iran employed short-range ballistic missiles against U.S. and coalition forces, leading to “a number of non-serious injuries and minor damage to infrastructure.”
The attacks on Monday night signified the 66th instance in which Iranian-backed militia groups have aimed at locations in Iraq and Syria where U.S. troops are stationed, using suicide drones, rockets, and missiles since October 17, as reported by ABC News.
