By Stefan J. Bos, Chief International Correspondent Worthy News
JERUSALEM/DAMASCUS (Worthy News) – Syria says it shot down Israeli missiles fired from the Israel-controlled Golan Heights towards the surroundings of the capital, Damascus, early Friday.
Most of the Israeli missiles were intercepted, but some caused material damage, the Syrian army said in a statement.
The strikes also targeted the town of Sayyida Zeinab, where Iran-backed militias have a heavy presence, said the Syrian Capital Voice news site. Footage from the scene showed a structure on fire
The Israeli military declined to comment.
There have been several attacks in the region since October 7, when Palestinian Hamas fighters attacked Israel, killing 1,200 people and prompting Israel to retaliate.
Last week, Israel’s military said an Iranian-backed group in Syria launched a drone that hit a school in the southern Israeli city of Eilat and that it struck the fighters in response.
On November 8, Syria also said Israel had carried out an aerial attack targeting military sites in southern Syria as the Hamas-Israel conflict led to an increase in tit-for-tat attacks.
