FBI Warns of Terrorist Attacks in the U.S.

(Worthy News) – FBI Director Christopher Wray warned on Wednesday before a Congressional Hearing that the United States faces “the greatest threat to the homeland” originating from lone actors or small groups radicalized online and “inspired” by terrorists. Wray testified on Capitol Hill that the U.S. is in a current “heightened threat environment.”
During his testimony, Wray stated that the most significant threat to the homeland involves lone individuals or small groups, usually radicalized through online channels, which could utilize easily accessible weapons to attack soft targets.
“In a year where the terrorism threat was already elevated, the ongoing war in the Middle East has raised the threat of an attack against Americans in the United States to a whole other level,” Wray testified.
“Given those calls for action, our most immediate concern is that individuals or small groups will draw twisted inspiration from the events in the Middle East to carry out attacks here at home,” Wray warned.
“On top of the so-called lone actor threat, we cannot and do not discount the possibility that Hamas, or another foreign terrorist organization, may exploit the current conflict to conduct attacks here on our own soil,” he continued.
The FBI Director revealed ongoing investigations into individuals affiliated with Hamas, emphasizing the need to scrutinize intelligence to understand the evolving threat. He underscored the importance of remaining vigilant, not only against Hamas but also against other groups like Iran and Islamist terror organizations.
“Iran, the world’s largest state sponsor of terrorism, has directly or indirectly mounted assassination attempts against dissidents and high-ranking U.S. officials, even here on American soil,” Wray noted. He also pointed out Hezbollah’s history of fundraising and seeking weapons within the United States, with recent FBI arrests indicating potential contingency planning for future operations on U.S. soil.
“FBI arrests in recent years also indicate Hezbollah has tried to seed operatives, establish infrastructure and engage in spying here domestically, raising our concern that they may be contingency planning for future operations in the United States. And while we are not currently tracking a specific plot, given that disturbing history, we are keeping a close eye on what impact recent events may have on those terrorist groups’ intentions here in the United States,” Wray concluded in his testimony.
