(Worthy News) – Police in the capital responded to the protests outside the Democratic National Committee headquarters in Washington D.C. The demonstrations escalated into violence as protesters demanded an immediate cease-fire in the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict.
U.S. Capitol Police (USCP) reported approximately 200 individuals engaging in “illegal and violent protests” near the DNC headquarters in Capitol Hill, Washington. Officers sustained injuries, including minor cuts, pepper spray burns, and physical assaults, as the anti-war protest turned violent.
Members of Congress Evacuated
Capitol Police evacuated members of Congress to safety amid the anti-Israel protest. Congressman Brad Sherman, the Democratic representative for California’s 32nd congressional district, reported being inside the DNC when Capitol Police swiftly evacuated him and fellow lawmakers as the protests became more violent.
After his evacuation, Sherman (D-CA) posted immediately on X.
“Was just evacuated from the DNC after pro-terrorist, anti-Israel protestors grew violent, pepper spraying police officers and attempting to break into the building. Thankful to the police officers who stopped them and for helping me and my colleagues get out safely,” Sherman wrote in an X post.
U.S. Senator Tom Cotton (R-AR) urged for the arrest of the protesters, labeling them as “pro-Hamas insurrectionists.” He called for their convictions using a similar approach to the cases involving individuals associated with the events of January 6, stated Cotton on X post.
Arrest Made
It was reported that multiple arrests were made. However, as of this report, the Capitol Police only confirmed the arrest of Ruben Arthur Camacho, a 24-year-old resident of Woodbridge, NY, on charges of Assault on a Police Officer. The arrest occurred after an officer observed Camacho slamming another officer into a garage door and subsequently punching the female officer in the face.
