(Worthy News) – Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah disappointed many Palestinians and their more militant supporters on Friday, according to Middle East analysts, in his first public remarks since the “Black Sabbath.”

In the weeks following Hamas’ October 7 attack on Israel, Hezbollah, a recognized Lebanese terrorist organization by the United States, has exchanged skirmishes on a nearly daily basis with Israel.

“The depth of the disappointment for those who want Hezbollah to do more against Israel is a reflection of the height of anticipation leading up to Nasrallah’s speech. For them, Nasrallah’s speech failed to deliver,” said Firas Maksad, director of outreach at the Middle East Institute, told Newsweek.

Upon the announcement on Sunday that Nasrallah would address the public, there was widespread anticipation that the Hezbollah leader might reveal further measures or a significant escalation.

However, he mainly reiterated previous warnings to the United States and Israel against a pre-emptive strike against Hezbollah, similar to those conveyed by lower-level leaders within the organization. Additionally, he called for a ceasefire in Gaza and reiterated Hezbollah’s support for Hamas and the Palestinian people.

He laid the blame for the escalation of violence at the feet of the United States, stating, “The United States is totally responsible for the war raging in Gaza against unarmed, defenseless people.”

“It is the United States that vetoes condemnation of Israel in the security council,” Nasrallah continued, blaming the U.S. for preventing a ceasefire in Gaza.

“It is the United States proving once again, as described by Khomeini [the Iranian Supreme Leader], [to be] the Great Satan, the Great Devil.”

In response to the build-up of U.S. forces in the Middle East, Nasrallah said, “your Navy ships in the Mediterranean don’t scare us, and they never did.”

He went on to reference past U.S. setbacks in the broader region.

“To the Americans, I say to you, remember your defeats in Lebanon, Iraq, in Afghanistan, and remember how you humiliatingly withdrawal from Afghanistan,” he said. “Today, Americans, I say to you that those who defeated you in Lebanon at the beginning of the 80s, they are still alive, and together with them, we have today their children and their grandchildren.”
