Iran-Backed Elite Unit Dubbed Hezbollah 2.0 Has Arrived in Lebanon
by Emmitt Barry, Worthy News Correspondent
(Worthy News) – According to an Israeli military source, an elite Iran-backed unit has recently arrived in Lebanon, with intentions to engage in attacks on Israel. This development comes as the conflict in the Gaza Strip has been escalating and spilling over into other areas, according to Newsweek.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) spokesperson confirmed that the “Imam Hossein Division,” previously mentioned in a July report by Newsweek for its activities in Syria, has now extended its presence to southern Lebanon to support Hezbollah.
“In our point of view, Hezbollah and the Imam Hossein militia are dragging Lebanon into paying the price for Hamas-ISIS,” the spokesperson told Newsweek. “The IDF is highly prepared to respond strongly to anyone who tries to undermine the security situation in the north.”
The Imam Hossein Division is an Iran-backed military group associated with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Quds Force. It was established in 2016 to support the government of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad during the Syrian civil war. This elite fighting force was responsible for missile attacks against Israel from Syrian territory and rocket attacks against U.S. troops in Syria after the defeat of ISIS.
The group was equipped with precision-guided munitions and various drones for combat and surveillance. Its members included thousands of fighters, primarily from Syria, as well as individuals from Afghanistan, Lebanon, Pakistan, Sudan, Yemen, and other regions. Some have referred to it as “Hezbollah 2.0.”
Nasrallah Anticipated Speech
Lebanon is in a state of heightened tension ahead of Hezbollah leader Syed Hassan Nasrallah’s anticipated speech on Friday, addressing Israel’s actions in Gaza. Residents and experts are concerned that his speech could exacerbate regional tensions if he pledges to intensify attacks on Israel.
In recent weeks, clashes between Hezbollah and Israel have escalated along their volatile border. Hezbollah reports the loss of 47 fighters, while Israel states that six of its soldiers have been killed.
Hamas Leader Reportedly Traveling to Iran
The IDF spokesperson also told Newsweek that Ismail Haniyeh, the political leader of Hamas, was reportedly traveling to Iran on Thursday. However, as of now, neither side has officially confirmed this visit. Haniyeh had previously met with Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian just two days before this reported trip, as well as on October 14. These meetings took place in the Qatari capital of Doha.
