WHO Chief Seeks To Amend Global Health Regulations Ahead Of ‘Next Pandemic’

GENEVA (Worthy News) – The head of the World Health Organization (WHO), Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, said Thursday that he wants to amend global health regulations as part of an international response to “protect the world” from the next pandemic.
In a video seen by Worthy News, he encouraged the quick ratification of these controversial measures by the WHO member states.
He stressed that the recent COVID-19 pandemic had revealed “political fault lines within and between nations” and “a torrent of mis and disinformation.”
Critics, including doctors and other experts, had publicly questioned the WHO-backed lockdowns, social distancing, mask-wearing, and vaccine passports.
Others supported the globally enforced pandemic measures that were encouraged by the WHO chief.
Tedros, who was pictured vaccinating against COVID-19, revealed Thursday that “WHO’s member states are negotiating a new pandemic accord and amendments to the International Health Regulations.”
He said they are “to strengthen the legal framework for the global response to pandemics.”
Tedros clarified that the WHO wants a more assertive global role in imposing its policies. “We can’t stop there. We must follow through with national ratification and accountable implementation. For the sake of future generations, we must not go back to the old cycle of panic and neglect that left our world vulnerable. We are stronger together.”
The measures are needed, he said, as the COVID-19 pandemic had “eroded trust between people, governments, and institutions, fuelled by a torrent of mis- and disinformation.
And, he said, “It laid bare the searing inequalities of our world, with the poorest and most vulnerable communities the hardest hit.”
Tedros noted that the COVID-19 “pandemic upended lives and livelihoods, disrupting societies and economies, and exposed and exacerbated political fault lines, within and between nations.”
The WHO chief warned that the “next pandemic
is not a question of if, but of when. And we cannot afford to repeat the same mistakes of the past.”
However, critical conservatives say that in the future, the WHO will take away the sovereign right of nations, including the United States, to determine and manage their approach to public health. The WHO has denied these accusations, saying member states can decide on their health policies.
