Israel instructs Gaza Palestinians on where to shelter from IDF counter-attack
by Karen Faulkner, Worthy News Correspondent
(Worthy News) – The Israel Defense Forces have been giving Palestinian residents of Gaza instructions on where to evacuate from Israel’s military response to Saturday’s devastating surprise attack on Israeli civilians by the Hamas terror group which rules the Strip, the Times of Israel (TOI) reports.
The IDF instructions were given through Arabic-language videos on social media platforms.
While Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Saturday told residents of Gaza to “get out now” to escape Israel’s imminent military operation, leaving the Strip is exceedingly difficult as it has been under Israeli-Egyptian blockade since the Hamas Islamists terrorists took control over it in 2007, TOI reports. The blockade is in place to prevent Hamas from obtaining weapons to attack Israel.
In a video address Sunday, an IDF spokesperson told Gazans: “the operations of terrorist organizations have forced the IDF to act against them in the area where you live. The IDF is not interested in hurting you or your families. Therefore, in order to preserve your safety, you must leave your place of residence.” The IDF spokesperson then showed maps of specific areas where residents could find safety.
On Sunday, the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine (UNRWA) said over 73,000 people were sheltering in 64 of its schools in Gaza, TOI said.
