Iran threatens Israel with “retaliation” following airstrike on Syrian airport

(Worthy News) – Iran’s Foreign Minister has threatened Israel with retaliation following an airstrike Monday on Syria’s international airport in Aleppo, the Times of Israel (TOI) reports. The Iranian Islamic fundamentalist regime has been a staunch ally of Syrian President Bashar Assad since civil war broke out in Syria in 2011.
Monday’s airstrike was attributed to Israel, although the Israeli military has not confirmed it, TOI reports. No one was injured in the strike, but the airport runway was put out of service. One of many strikes on Syria in the last decade, Monday’s strike was the third time this year that the Aleppo airport has been hit,
In a statement Wednesday, Iran’s foreign minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian said Israel would face retribution for the strike.“I would like to strongly condemn the brutal attacks by the fake Israeli regime on Aleppo airport and other civilian areas in Syria,” Amir-Abdollahian said.“The criminal practices by the Zionist entity in the region will not remain without retaliation,” he added.
Israel has previously stated it carried out air strikes on Syria to prevent arms shipments from reaching terror groups, especially the Iran-backed Hezbollah terror organization.
“Israel is believed to be targeting Syria’s airports to counter Iran’s growing use of commercial flights to bring military supplies into the country, which are later trucked into Lebanon to be used by the Hezbollah terror group,” TOI said in its report.
