More than 1,000 US school districts withhold information from parents about children’s transgender identity

(Worthy News) – At least 1,040 US school districts nationwide have implemented policies that allow staff to keep parents in the dark about their child’s identifying as trans or nonbinary, the Christian Post reports. The school districts represent 18,335 schools with more than 10.7 million students.
The Parents Defending Education advocacy group reported that school districts have implemented “Transgender/Gender Nonconforming Policies,” which statethat district staff can, or even should, withhold information about a school child’s gender identity from their parents, CP reports.
A study released in February found that 3 million K-12 public school students are enrolled in school districts where they can change their name and gender pronouns without their parent’s consent, CP reports. Conducted by the “Pills and Pronouns: School Districts Require Parental Consent for Over-the-Counter Medicine But Not New Names and Pronouns” the study was conducted by the Defense of Freedom Institute for Policy Studies.
However, a new report published by Parents Defending Education earlier this month reveals that at least 9 million students are enrolled in such school districts, CP said.
In a statement to the Christian Post in February, Angela Morabito, former US Department of Education press secretary during the Trump administration, said the policies are driving “a wedge between parents and their children.”
