Trump Charged Over Alleged Election Fraud

WASHINGTON (Worthy News) – Former U.S. President Donald J. Trump faced significant legal challenges that could overshadow his re-election bid after he was charged with four counts following a grand jury’s examination of his alleged efforts to overturn the 2020 election results.
Charges include “conspiracy to defraud the United States” and an attempt to obstruct an official proceeding.
The indictment also alleges Trump “knowingly” told lies to subvert the 2020 election results against the advice of his appointees.
The indictment also lists six unnamed co-conspirators who allegedly helped Trump spread his false claims, proceeding observers said.
Trump condemned the indictment as “fake” and claimed it was being issued to ruin his 2024 bid for the White House.
Special Counsel Jack Smith was appointed to oversee investigations into Trump, including his alleged involvement in the January 6 deadly riot, which occurred while the U.S. Congress was certifying Joe Biden’s declared victory.
TRUMP SUMMONED
Trump was reportedly summoned to appear in court on Thursday in Washington DC before a judge.
He already faces charges brought by Smith’s team over alleged mishandling of classified documents in Florida, accusations he denies.
The former president also faces trial in New York City on charges of “falsifying” business records in hush money payments before the 2016 election to adult film star Stormy Daniels.
Some of the top charges Trump faces in the January case carry a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison.
The first charge, conspiracy to defraud the US, carries a maximum sentence of five years, while two other charges, “conspiracy to obstruct an official proceeding” and “obstruction of an official proceeding,” come with maximum 20-year prison sentences.
