Palestinian Authority says it has no intention of disarming terror groups in Jenin

(Worthy News) – The Palestinian Authority announced Wednesday that it has no intention of disarming the Jenin Battalion terrorist associated with Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ), or other terrorist groups operating in the West Bank city of Jenin, i24News reports. The announcement came after recent high-profile major IDF counter-terrorism operations in Jenin.
The PA said Israel, Hamas and the PIJ have been “spreading lies” about its intentions to clamp down on militant Palestinian activity, i24News reports. The PA statements follow reports in Israeli media that the PA was targeting terror groups operating in the West Bank.
Jenin’s PA governor Akram Rajoub asserted in a statement that anonymous parties were trying to engage Ramallah and armed groups into an “artificial crisis,” i24News reports.
“The PA holds in high esteem anyone who carries weapons and resists the occupation,” Rajoub said. “[The PA] will not allow anyone to attack our institutions and shoot at our security forces,” he added.
In any event, PA officials have said they will not allow armed men to do what they will in the West Bank, i24News reports. Earlier this week, the PA said rogue gunmen would have their hands “cut off” if they threatened the security of the Palestinian civilian population.
