MOSCOW/BUDAPEST (Worthy News) – Moscow on Monday pulled out of a grain deal that allowed Ukraine to export grain through the Black Sea after two people died in a blast hitting a bridge linking Crimea with Russia.

An angry Russia notified the United Nations, Turkey, and Ukraine about its decision, which was expected to impact millions of people as Ukraine is one of the world’s breadbaskets.

Moscow said it would return to the agreement if its conditions were met. Russian President Vladimir Putin complained that parts of the deal allowing the export of Russian food and fertilizers had not been honored.

He also claimed that grain had not been supplied to several poorer countries, a condition of the agreement.

Additionally, Putin vowed to retaliate for the alleged “terrorist” attack on the Kerch bridge that reportedly killed two people while their daughter was injured.

Moscow blames Kyiv, but Ukraine’s military called the latest reported incident on the bridge a “provocation.”

The targeted 19-kilometer (12-mile) bridge, which spans the Kerch Strait, is a crucial supply route for Russian troops who invaded Ukraine last year, experts say.

It was opened in 2018 to enable road and rail travel between Russia and the Crimea peninsula, which Moscow annexed from
Ukraine in 2014.
