Israel adds cutting-edge new cannon to it defense arsenal

(Worthy News) – Israel has developed a cutting-edge new cannon that fires robotically loaded shells and is already being heralded as one of Israel’s best security projects, Ynet News reports. Known as Roem (“thunderous” in Hebrew), the cannon was developed by the Israel’s Defense Ministry and Israeli defense manufacturer Elbit.
The Roem has an autonomous reloading mechanism, outstanding mobility on mechanical wheels, and a remarkable firing rate of eight rounds a minute.
The cannon’s capabilities were successfully tested last month on difficult terrain and simulating different kinds of shells: targets 20 km away were reached during testing, although range would be even longer in real combat.
Critically, the fact that shells are robotically loaded, troops in combat are protected.
A variant of the cannon made for the European market would be able to fire at targets 80 km away. Currently, only one of the few existing prototypes has been modified for foreign clients.
The cannon was revealed to representatives of armies from the UK, Germany, the Netherlands, and Hungary last month, and received an enthusiastic reception, Ynet said. Elbit has already signed billions of dollars worth of purchasing agreements with European clients.
