CNN Defends Trump Town Hall

WASHINGTON (Worthy News) – The U.S. Cable News Network (CNN) has defended its recent decision to provide former President Donald J. Trump an opportunity to speak to voters in a controversial live televised town hall meeting.
During the event, Trump took questions from moderator Kaitlan Collins and Republican voters in the audience at the New Hampshire forum in his first appearance on CNN since 2016.
The town hall was criticized by liberal media and commentators arguing that CNN should not give a primetime platform to a 2024 presidential candidate “who is still being investigated for allegedly inciting an insurrection at the Capitol on January 6, 2021.”
They also questioned his “three years pushing false voter fraud claims” about the 2020 election.
During Wednesday’s town hall meeting, Trump repeated his assessment that the elections had been rigged to favor his opponent Joe Biden who became the next president.
And he made clear that he waited to pardon “many” of those convicted of violently storming the Capitol Building on January 6, 2021, after anger over the declared election outcome.
PRAISING RIOTER
He praised Ashli Babbitt, who was killed trying to break into a room near the House of Representatives chamber. He called the Capitol Hill security officer who shot her a “thug.”
Talking about the economy, billionaire Trump said that going over the debt cliff for the first time in U.S. history may be a necessary step if Republicans don’t get the broad spending cuts they desire.
Republicans and Democrats in Washington are in tense negotiations over raising the legal debt limit to avoid a default on the national debt.
For conservative evangelical voters, one of Trump’s most notable achievements as president was appointing Supreme Court justices who ultimately reversed the Roe v Wade ruling, allowing abortions nationwide.
Trump took credit for that – but repeatedly declined him say clearly what he wanted to happen next on the issue of abortion. He only revealed that as president, he would consider the issue and do “what’s right for everybody.”
On the international front, Trump stressed that Russia would have never invaded Ukraine if he were president.
PEACE DEAL
Trump said that if elected, he would negotiate a settlement within 24 hours. “I don’t think of winning or losing; I think in terms of getting it settled,” he said. “I want everybody to stop dying.”
Yet critics have questioned Trump’s ability to be an effective president as he faces legal wrangling and questions about his character. M
He was asked directly about Tuesday’s verdict in the E Jean Carroll civil case when he was ordered to pay about $5 million in damages for sexual abuse and defamation.
He denied having any contact with the columnist despite a photo emerging of them together.
“I don’t know her. I never met her. I had no idea who she is,” Trump claimed.
After the town hall, CNN said it was its responsibility to “ask tough questions, follow up, and hold him accountable.”
And allow voters to make up their minds.
