(Worthy News) – A new Gallup poll shows that the percentage of Americans identifying as LGBT has doubled in the last 10 years, the Christian Post reports. Released on Wednesday last week, the poll was based on responses from 10,700 American adults in 2022.

According to the poll, Generation Z (born between 1997 and 2004) Americans are more likely to identify as gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, or something “other” than heterosexual than older US adults, CP reports.

The Gallup poll shows that the number of US adults identifying as LGBT reached a record 7.2% last year – up from 7.1% in 2021, 5.6% in 2020, and 3.5% in 2012, CP reports.

The survey reveals that almost one in five (19.7%) Generation Z adults identify as being part of the LGBT community: 13.1% identify as bisexual, 3.4% identify as gay, 2.2% identify as lesbians,1.9% identify as trans, and 1.5% chose the “other LGBT” category in answer to a question about their sexual orientation, CP reports.

“With many more younger than older adults seeing themselves as something other than heterosexual, the LGBT share of the entire U.S. adult population can be expected to grow in future years,” Gallup Senior Editor Jeffrey M. Jones said in the poll report. “However, this growth depends on younger people who enter adulthood in future years continuing to be much more likely to identify as LGBT than their parents, grandparents and great-grandparents.”
