Israel warns Syria of uptick in air strikes unless it stops smuggling weapons to Hezbollah
by Karen Faulkner, Worthy News Correspondent
(Worthy News) – Israel has reportedly warned Syria that it will increase airstrikes on the country if it does not stop collaborating with Iran to smuggle weapons to the Lebanese terror group Hezbollah, the Times of Israel (TOI) reported on Thursday. It has not been confirmed when or how Israel made its threat to Syria.
Citing anonymous sources, the Saudi-funded Al-Arabiya media outlet said Iran has been funneling weapons to Hezbollah by land and sea, by disguising them as aid to Syria and Lebanon, TOI reports.
Accordingly, Al-Arabiya said in its report, there have been targeted air strikes on targeted military sites belonging to Syria’s Fourth Armoured Division, an elite unit commanded by Syrian dictator Bashar Assad’s brother, Maher.
Al-Arabiya said Maher Assad has been supporting Iran “in the transfer of strategic weapons and dangerous materials” for Syria and Lebanon, TOI reports.
Although Israel does not generally confirm or deny its operations in Syria, it apparently carried out an airstrike on Thursday, the third apparent strike in under a week, TOI reports. There have been additional strikes on the“Lebanese legion” of Iran’s Revolutionary Guards, involved in smuggling weapons to Lebanon.
