US to deploy aircraft carrier to South Korea coast following North Korea missile test

(Worthy News) -The US is set to redeploy an aircraft carrier to South Korea’s east coast after North Korea test fired an intermediate-range ballistic missile over Japan on Tuesday, Sky News reports.
The US Defense Ministry has not confirmed which ship will be sent, although the Nimitz-class nuclear-powered supercarrier USS Ronald Reagan is already in the region, Sky News said. The Ronald Reagan ship has a complement of 90 fixed-wing aircraft and helicopters.
The IRBM fired by Pyongyang on Tuesday flew right over Japan, causing the government to warn citizens in the northeast of the country to evacuate and take cover, Sky News said. The missile eventually landed in the Pacific Ocean.
US President Joe Biden and Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida issued a statement condemning North Korea’s test in the “strongest terms.” The European Union also condemned the test as “reckless and deliberately provocative action,” the Express UK reports.
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres added that the test constitutes a violation of Security Council resolutions, the Express UK said. The UN Security Council was set to meet on Wednesday, October 5, to discuss the missile test at the request of the US: China and Russia immediately indicated their opposition to the meeting.
