Prison ministry disciples inmates through its own created app

(Worthy News) – The US-based God Behind Bars prison ministry is discipling and sharing the Gospel with inmates through a free mobile app it has created that offers sermons, worship music, and devotionals, CBN News reports.
With headquarters in Las Vegas, God Behind Bars helps prisoners spiritually and practically both while they are serving their sentence and once they have been released. In 2021, the ministry created the ‘Pando’ app, allowing inmates to stream free Christian content provided by partner churches on a prison tablet, CBN said. Some seventy churches a week have been adding content to the app.
In a statement to CBN, Isaac Holt, Director of Innovation for God Behind Bars, told CBN News that the ministry partners with numerous companies to supply the tablets necessary for prisoners to access the app. The ministry itself pays for the download of Pando onto the tablet, so it is free for prisoners.
“There are one million tablets being used across the nation and Pando app is currently on 180,000 of them. We’re constantly raising money because we don’t want to charge them to experience the gospel,” Holt said. “We want every single inmate to experience the gospel and hear the name of Jesus. When the tablet is plugged into the charging station, it connects to Wifi, allowing 4,000 videos to be watched on the app.”
“We dreamed of wanting to get to more prisons,” Holt added. “We wanted to make a bigger impact, but it’s hard to get into them. It took a year and a half to research and try things, then we finally figured out how to do it.”
